The critical point of this idea is that it needs a wide adoption by users before it can work in the intended way. A very similar network structure to the one I presented is the so-called Blogosphere---the network of Weblogs. Weblogs are a kind of personal news sites on the World Wide Web. The Blogosphere is based on a couple of simple XML standards of which RSS is very widespread. There are hundred thousands of bloggers which produce about one thousand to five-thousand entries every hour.
As a first step, the feeds could be extended with an interest module, so that news items are annotated with the aforesaid interest value and the traversed nodes. As a second step, a replacement for the HTTP protocol would enable real-time transmission of news items.
