A social network is a model from the social sciences which can help to analyse the communication pattern of a set of people. It is a general model which works on the micro as well as on the macro level of communities. Now I will explain the basic elements and how they relate to the Freeporters.
Nodes in this model are the individual Freeporters and they can produce and consume news items. A tie connects a pair of nodes. The ties are directed and weighted. A tie from one node to another shall indicate trust from the first into the second node. For this application, trust does not refer to truth, what is more important is interestingness. Thus, trust shall be the belief that a node will provide interesting information in the future.
With these basic elements, we get two interesting structures.
